Vegan Protein Shake Without Stevia – My Honest Review
This post about a vegan protein shake without stevia was originally posted June 24, 2022 | Updated for clarity and readability April 06, 2025
After a very stressful move from one country to another, and then looking after four kids by myself for many months, I was really battling physically. My energy levels were at an all-time low. I desperately needed something to boost me — and fast.
I knew the best solution would be a good-quality protein shake.
What is a Protein Shake?
According to the Oxford Dictionary:
“A blended drink resembling a milkshake that contains high levels of protein, typically drunk to help someone gain muscle or weight or increase their level of energy.”
My Dilemma: Vegan, IBS, and Stevia
Being vegan and dealing with IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome), especially during stressful times, made things tricky. Most protein powders I found either had whey (no thanks) or stevia (an IBS nightmare).
Stevia is awful for sensitive tummies — and honestly, I believe it’s something everyone should avoid. You can read my full article on that here:
👉 Stevia: Do You Know the Truth?
The Solution:
My Wellness Super Vegan Protein Powder
Eventually, after loads of research and squinting at ingredients lists, I finally found a winner.
✅ 100% vegan
✅ Unflavoured version has no stevia!
✅ Actually tastes good (no weird aftertaste)
I gave it a go — and wow. I felt energetic, focused, and way more able to cope with life. It became a daily part of my routine.
Important: Not All Flavours Are Equal
Only the unflavoured version is free of stevia. The flavoured ones do contain it, so always double-check the label!
Quick Product Overview
From the My Wellness website:

Superfood boost from baobab and wheatgrass
20g of protein per serving

Superfood Breakdown
Let’s take a closer look at those bonus ingredients:
🌳 Baobab
Known as the fruit of Africa’s “Tree of Life,” baobab is nearly 50% fibre (two-thirds soluble, one-third insoluble), making it a powerful prebiotic.
Dr. Axe says it may help with:
Inflammation
Viral and microbial infections
Energy and stamina
Immune support
Medicinenet adds that it supports energy, stamina, and mental focus. Yes, please.
🌱 Wheatgrass
Wheatgrass contains:
All known minerals
Vitamins A, B-complex, C, E, and K
Up to 70% chlorophyll (an amazing blood builder)
Benefits may include:
High oxygen in the body
Metabolism support
Liver detox
Reduced inflammation
Better sleep
Improved skin, digestion, and immunity
And don’t worry — it’s gluten-free if harvested correctly (without the seed head). That’s huge if you have IBS or a gluten sensitivity.

🌿 Hemp Protein
Hemp is a complete protein and full of antioxidants, fibre, and omega fatty acids. It supports:
Heart health
Lean body mass
Brain function

🌼 Yellow Pea Protein
This is the base of the product and a great one at that. According to Healthline, it’s:
Easy to digest
High in iron and amino acids
Vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free, and hypoallergenic
Basically, it ticks all the boxes.
My Honest Take
I started with the 450g pouch. It comes in a sealed plastic packet, which — let’s be honest — is a bit messy. Getting the scoop out without spilling powder everywhere is a nightmare.
I did message My Wellness about it, and they said they’re working on better packaging. Fingers crossed!
Next time, I’ll get the 900g container version, which has a proper lid. I’ll update this post once I’ve tried it.
Update: the container is much better!
In Summary
If you’re:
Vegan
Sensitive to stevia
Struggling with energy
Looking for a clean, gut-friendly protein shake
…then this is definitely worth trying.
Good News for UK Readers! (2025 update)
Although MyWellness is a South African brand, they now also deliver to the UK, Germany, UAE, and across Africa via their international site: https://www.my-wellness.uk. Shipping to the UK currently costs R577 (around £25) for the first kg, and R255 (around £11) per kg thereafter. So while it’s not cheap, if you’re buying in bulk or splitting an order with a friend, it could still be a great way to access these stevia-free, gut-friendly protein powders from abroad!
