Maca the Miraculous: Boost Energy & Immunity Naturally
When we moved to Spain from South Africa in June 2018, the changes, challenges, working hours, and life-schooling our four small kids drained us! We needed something to help boost our immune system and give us the extra energy we so desperately needed. That’s when we discovered Maca—the miraculous superfood powder that we started adding to our breakfasts and smoothies. The results were amazing!
Why We Chose Maca
Living in a small Spanish village, we found that health products were quite expensive. So, we ordered our Maca powder online through Amazon. We searched for a high-quality, pure one that wouldn’t break the bank and found Indigo Nutrition’s Maca Powder. At the time (October 2018), it cost only €17.49, making it the most affordable option while still delivering fantastic benefits. I highly recommend Indigo Nutrition’s Powder!
What Is Maca?
Maca, sometimes called “Peruvian Ginseng,” is an ancient food from the Andes region packed with vitamins and minerals. It contains essential minerals like:
- Iodine – Supports the adrenal glands and thyroid to regulate hormones.
- Calcium, Potassium, Iron & Zinc – Promote healthy bones, red blood cells, blood pressure, and immune function.
- Vitamin B6 & Iron – Work together to form fresh red blood cells.
- Manganese & Copper – Powerful antioxidants.
- Vitamin C – Boosts immune function.
It is also a known adaptogen, meaning it helps the body adjust to stress and extreme conditions.
How to Use Peruvian Ginseng Powder
Adding Maca to your daily diet is simple. Here are some easy ways to incorporate this superfood:
- Smoothies – Blend it with nut milk, fruit juice, or vegetable juice.
- Breakfast cereals – Stir it into porridge, muesli, or granola.
- Soups & stews – Sprinkle it in for extra nutrition.
- Nut butters – Mix it with peanut or almond butter to mask the taste.
- Energy-boosting smoothies – Check out my Russell Hobbs Mini Blender review, where I share one of our daily immune-boosting smoothie recipes that includes Maca!

Final Thoughts
If you’re looking for a natural way to increase energy and improve overall health, I highly recommend giving Maca a try! You’ll likely notice a difference in how you feel very quickly.
That said, this powder does have a strong taste, but we found that adding a nut butter (like peanut butter) helps mask it.
