Teaching Gumboot Kids is our way of sharing this journey with you—mud, mess, magic and all.
We don’t follow a set curriculum. We follow our children—their questions, their interests, their pace. We learn through life, through books, baking, bugs, and big conversations around the dinner table.

🌈 Why “Teaching Gumboot Kids”?
Because it captures everything we believe home education should be:
Teaching = Guiding, not controlling or instructing
Gumboot = Spending time exploring the outdoors
Kids = The precious little humans we’re blessed to raise
It’s not about perfection. It’s about presence. It’s not about ticking boxes. It’s about nurturing hearts and minds through real life.
💛 Our Journey
I never set out to homeschool. Like many, I assumed my kids would go to school, do their homework, and that’d be that. But life—and our children—had other plans.
Over fifteen years ago, we chose to walk a different path. A path that let us slow down. That helped us listen. That gave us space to really see our children for who they are—not who a system says they should be.
We’ve home-educated four children with wildly different personalities, needs, and learning styles. And you know what? It’s been messy. Beautiful. Exhausting. Life-giving. Wild and worth it.
