Street Nantwich: The Best Fries & Fun Urban Vibes in Cheshire

Walking into Street Nantwich, you might think, “Is this just another pub?” — and that’s exactly the point. The outside looks deceptively simple. But inside? Oh, friends… inside is a whole different world.

We arrived hungry (very hungry). My kids were practically vibrating from the walking around Nantwich — we’d been searching for fries, because in our family, fries are sacred. You wouldn’t think it’s hard to find fries in the UK, but oh, it is. Not everyone likes thick “hot chips,” not everyone likes skin-on fries… basically, ordering fries as a family is like negotiating a peace treaty sometimes 😂

We wandered through Welsh Row, almost giving up, ready to head home or a safe, predictable place, when we stumbled on Street. The signage outside promised:

“Authentic street food. Fresh. Fast. Street food done right. 25% off for students every Tuesday!”

…and yes, it’s as fun as it sounds. Flags from around the world decorate the exterior, and the chalkboard sign made us smile — a casual invitation to come in and just enjoy. Bonus: a Food Hygiene Rating of 5/5. Always important when feeding hungry kids.

The Inside: A Multi-Coloured, Multi-Sensory Adventure

Inside, the restaurant is layered in industrial charm + street art fun. The front area is bright and welcoming with big windows, a friendly bar lady who instantly made us feel at home, and a wooden bar so chunky it could double as a medieval battering ram.

Above the bar, instead of scribbled notes or tourist postcards, are currency notes from all over the world — a clever nod to global street food culture.

Walk around the corner, and you hit the heart of the restaurant:

  • Bottle-cap hashtag archway — hundreds (thousands?) of bottle caps forming an arch you actually walk under.

  • Angel wings with a halo — a natural selfie magnet, irresistible to everyone in the family.

  • Eclectic seating — mismatched chairs, long cushioned benches with completely different cushions (Spanish skulls, Maori motifs, hearts, flowers — you name it).

  • Lighting zones — bright at the front, warm red and yellow in the middle, cool blue at the back near the serving van.

It’s the kind of place that makes you grin before you even order. And the music? Absolute genius. From Nat King Cole to Billie Eilish, it hits that sweet spot between laid-back dining and vibey energy — suitable for kids and grown-ups alike.

Ordering at Street Nantwich: Fun & Simple

Food is served from the back of a half-cut VW van, because, why not? It’s the kind of quirky detail that makes you instantly feel like you’re in an urban street-food festival rather than a regular restaurant.

You order at the bar, get a number, and wait for the honking car-horn sound — yes, really — to let you know your food is ready. Then you collect your food, sauces, and cutlery yourself.

We were number four. Six plates of fries arrived — massive baskets, perfectly crispy (but not tooth-breaking), lightly salted, and the best we’ve ever eaten. One spiced version for adventurous kids, plain for the rest — everyone satisfied, including the adults.

Family Friendly & Thoughtful Touches

  • Outdoor enclosed seating area, decorated with American street-art murals (including a lady with a huge afro and stars in her hair)

  • High chairs and baby seats available

  • Warm, tidy toilets with heaters (bless them — very important in Cheshire winters!)

  • Staff checked in frequently, clearing tables, offering help, and even taking a family photo for us

The Verdict: Why Street Nantwich Stands Out 👍😎

Street isn’t for everyone — some might find it a bit “too quirky” — but for our family, it hit every mark:

  • Fun, casual, Instagram-worthy decor

  • Friendly, professional service

  • Massive, delicious fries

  • Family-friendly vibes

  • A genuine, carefully thought-out street-food concept

We can’t wait to go back next time we’re wandering Nantwich!
