Powerball vs Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

If you have read my post on the Ultimag Magnesium and Zinc tablets, you will know that I was diagnosed with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome in my right wrist more than three years ago, and was told by the doctor that I will need surgery to sort it out. I do not like the idea of surgery and immediately started researching natural methods to heal Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

I discovered that magnesium works wonders and you can read my experience of this method in my Ultimag post as explained above. The pain in my wrist and hand is 90 percent better now after taking magnesium supplements, but it still gives me problems every now and then, when I let my magnesium intake slip.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome: wrist injury
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome: wrist injury

According to WebMD:

Carpal tunnel syndrome is numbness, tingling, weakness, and other problems in your hand because of pressure on the median nerve in your wrist. The median nerve and several tendons run from your forearm to your hand through a small space in your wrist called the carpal tunnel . The median nerve controls movement and feeling  in your thumb and first three fingers (not your little finger).

What causes carpal tunnel syndrome?

Pressure on the median nerve causes carpal tunnel syndrome. This pressure can come from swelling or anything that makes the carpal tunnel smaller. Many things can cause this swelling, including:

  • Illnesses such as hypothyroidism, rheumatoid arthritis, and diabetes
  • Making the same hand movements over and over, especially if the wrist is bent down (your hands lower than your wrists), or making the same wrist movements over and over.
  • Pregnancy

My carpal tunnel developed after my third pregnancy. As you can see above, pregnancy can cause the swelling, but I think it was also from carrying small children for many years in a row, with my wrist bent down in the same movement over and over.

Meet the Powerball:

My son was given a Powerball as a gift one day, and we were totally blown away at how this incredible invention works. This is what it looks like:

The amazing Powerball helps with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
The amazing Powerball

We found out by researching on the internet, that this amazing ball-shaped device with an internal gyroscope (jire-oh-skope: greek word guros which means circle, and greek skopein which is to watch) helps to develop strength and mobility in one’s wrist, aiding with problems such as Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (and many other injuries in one’s arm)!

In the Collins Dictionary it says that a gyroscope is:

A device containing a disc rotating on an axis that can turn freely in any direction, so that the disc maintains the same position regardless of the movement of the surrounding structure.

This is how Wikipedia describes the Powerball (you can read the rest here  https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gyroscopic_exercise_tool )

gyroscopic exercise tool is a device used to exercise the wrist as part of physical therapy or in order to build palm, forearm and finger strength. It can also be used as a unique demonstration of some aspects of rotational dynamics. The device consists of a tennis ball-sized plastic or metal shell around a free-spinning mass, which is started with a short rip string. Once the gyroscope inside is going fast enough, a person holding the device can accelerate the spinning mass to high revolution rates by moving the wrist in a circular motion.

When the rotor is put into motion by the user (which takes a bit of practice), the device gently propels the user’s wrist into a rotating motion.

From the Powerballs.com website:

“Smooth, precise & vibration free, reaching speeds of 18,000+ revolutions per minute without batteries or motor.”

This motion generates resistance and pressure. What this does is it encourages toning in the various muscles of the arm, right from the fingers, to the hand, wrist, elbow, forearm, shoulder and the chest. Not just the wrist and hand, but the entire arm!

How the Powerball is made up: the incredible piece of equipment that helps heal Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

I contacted RPM Sports Ltd. in Ireland and they were extremely helpful, sending me all the information I needed. Their website is: https://powerballs.com and they have tons of really  well written articles to read through,  as well as videos to watch, such as one that explains how to rehabilitate wrist injuries like Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

Wrist rehab is made simple with Powerball, the world’s most effective handheld exercise device.

Powerball is one of the only handheld devices in the world which enables you to strengthen as you recover. This is thanks to Powerball’s isometric resistance, which repairs damaged tissue while simultaneously strengthening it with gentle, pulsating pressure.

Join the 4 million other customers who have successfully used Powerball for wrist rehab and strengthening, and experience the benefits for yourself today.

All it takes is 3 minutes a day with this wonderful device to start feeling the benefits.

I am going to follow their advice and give the Powerball a serious try (with my son’s permission 😉). So far, I can definitely feel it working on my forearm and wrist. It is quite amazing to see how fast it spins inside, and to hear the whirring sound it makes! Will keep you updated…

UPDATE 2019 and 2020:

The Powerball definitely works and is quite addictive! It’s loads of fun and easy to use for the whole family.

Looking at their website, I see that they now have way more than just Powerballs to offer. They also have:
